I am checking in to see if you were able to follow my suggestion from my post on 1/7/12 and make it a priority to make a plan to take time for yourself? If so, congratulations – whoohoo! If not, what is getting in the way? Can you take a few moments and choose one thing, only one small thing even that you will do for yourself this week. I just finished reading The Happiness Project which is a book by Gretchen Rubin. Gretchen spent a year trying to see if she could become happier (she was not unhappy, just looking to see how become even happier). Each month she challenged herself to do something or change something she thought would bring her more happiness. It was a really interesting and entertaining read and provoked me to think about things I could do in my own life. The underlying premise was about just trying to do something differently which is what I am challenging you to do now if you are someone who always puts yourself last.
Make it about you for once – commit right now to doing one small thing for yourself this week. You deserve it, it is not selfish and you will ultimately be a better parent and better person if you make sure that you are taking care of yourself while taking care of so many others.
